Three types of perfectionism are mentioned: self-oriented, socially prescribed, and other-oriented. Self-oriented perfectionism is to set goals that are very difficult to achieve. A person sets these criteria oneself, when one cannot reach them, one makes an intense bombardment of self-criticism and does not want to accept one’s own flaws. Other-oriented perfectionism is to expect others to meet your unrealistically high criteria. When they don’t meet these measures, you find them worthless and criticize them. Socially prescribed perfectionism is that you think that others have expectations that are too high for you to meet. These high criteria must be met to gain approval from others. We can give an example to this group of people who are always chasing bravos.

Perfectionism is a personality trait. These characteristics are stable qualities that make you who you are, and they can be transmitted genetically, as well as learned through reward, punishment, or modeling. Perfectionists are very uncomfortable that their work is not done as they know it. Depression, anxiety, social anxiety, anger, obsessive-compulsive behaviors, eating disorders occur with perfectionism.
